13 October 2000, Kota Kinabalu-- just a few weeks ago Daily Express publish a strange news about how villagers in Keningau seeking help from spirit to taking care of their logging area. Fancy that!
The villagers ask local Bobolians (traditional Kadazan priest) to conduct a ritual so that these spirit will taking good care of their water catchment area from illegal logger.
It may be look ridicules and of course outdated solution for some of us. loggers especially almost afraid of nothing, not even government or government rangers.
But on the other hand, they are sending us a signal, a crystal clear one. Its says that they are helpless and desperate. Desperate enough until they no longer seeking help from living creature, let alone local authority to solve their problem. But why? they may know better!
No hurt feelings, but to our Kadazandusun friends, here to help. We, Kedayan people have no less spirit, nor the priest than yours. We have 'Pantak', 'Guis', 'Hantu Lahia', 'Sianggau' to mention a few.
Most of this services are free although you may have to pay 'pikaas' so that it will become 'mangasi'.
The only problem is that we never test them to guard our logging area. As the result of this, our logging area is gone already and loggers now eyeing for Long Pa Sia.
