5 Oktober 2000. Engkek & Sipalui, KOL duo now are very busy on their ongoing project. Our source revealed that they're now finalizing the draft of their own homepage. Imagine that! even Engkek now thinking of having a web site on their own.
When contacted, Engkek expressed his concern about Kedayans losing their identities and hope this work is contributing towards preserving a small portion of Kedayan culture. Kedayans identity is eroding, be in term of cultural practises or numbers he said. He added this is due to a long process of globalisation and assimilation of Kedayans into Malaysia mainstream society. As the result of this there a numbers of kedayans who simply put their children race as 'malays' on their birth certificate.
And what exactly their web site is all about?
Engkek told us that their web site will be focus on collecting and compiling Engkek and Sipalui stories. This is due to abundant varieties of Engkek and Sipalui stories goes unwritten, but very popular amongst kedayan. Most of these stories tells how Engkek, the smarter of the duo, always cheat, manipulate and taking advantage over the poor Sipalui (or the dumb).
Of course, this is sound familiar storyboard and still apply today. Most of the story is satirical, aimed to served as the way elders to teach a lesson to their children on how the smarter will survive and to advice them not to behave like Sipalui (as the matter fact Sipalui is still alive inside some of Kedayans even now).
